CHICAGO, May 5 (Reuters) - China has banned pork from 17 more U.S. states, including top pork producers Iowa and North Carolina, bringing the total number of states banned to 36, USDA said Tuesday.
No reason was given for the bans, but analysts contacted by Reuters said the deadly H1N1 flu, once called swine flu, is the likely cause.
The flu is not transmitted by hogs or pork, but many countries have reacted by banning pork from the United States and Mexico. (Reporting by Bob Burgdorfer; Editing by John Picinich)
